Event Details

The Australian Wine Society of Toronto and the Canadian Australian Chamber of Commerce, invite you to our annual Australia Day Dinner, Wednesday, January 25, 2012,

at the Albany Club.

The first fleet of ships to carry convicts from England to Botany Bay sailed from Portsmouth, England, on May 13, 1787. They arrived at Botany Bay on January 18, 1788. When that place proved unsuitable for a settlement ,the fleet made its way a short distance up the coast and on January 25, 1788 entered what is now known as Sydney Harbour and anchored in Sydney Cove.

AWS and CACC, will commemorate Captain Arthur Philip’s landing of the first fleet. In Australia, the day will be celebrated on January 26 in all states and territories, as we celebrate here in Toronto, on Wednesday, January 25.  As is our custom, the evening begins at 6:30 with a reception on the Fourth Floor followed by a four course dinner at 7:30 in the main dining room. The Albany Club's Executive Chef, Jay Parhar, has once again put together a splendid menu and as always, there will be wines, entertainment and special door prizes, all included with the ticket price of $125.00 per person.

Australian Wine Society of Toronto

The Australian Wine Society (AWS) of Toronto is a not-for-profit organization devoted to the enjoyment of Australian wines. Through exposure to, and education about the wines and wine regions of Australia, the Society seeks to encourage a greater awareness of the wine varietals, the diversity and the styles of Aussie wines, in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. The opportunity to try a wide range of wines makes it easier for members to decide what types they might want to purchase through wine agents, the LCBO, Vintages monthly releases and the Classics Catalogue.
